Sunset Over Water

About this board game

Sunset Over Water is a landscape-painting game for 1–4 players that plays in about 20 minutes. Across six days, players hike through the wilderness, search for beautiful locations, paint landscapes, and build Renown by selling their work.

Each day begins with a simultaneous Planning Phase. Draw three Planning Cards and choose one to determine when you leave, how far you can travel, and how many paintings you can create. Your choice also affects initiative, helping set the order in which players begin their hikes.

During the individual Trek Phase, players move through the Wilderness, collect Landscape Cards by painting, and may sell paintings as commissions for Renown. Players can also check whether they have completed the current Daily Goal, creating another way to increase their score during the day.

• Collect Landscape Cards and exchange them for Commission Cards worth Renown.
• Complete Daily Goals for additional Renown.

Once everyone has taken a Trek Phase, the Clean Up Phase refreshes the Wilderness, Commission Cards, and Daily Goal before the next day begins. After the sixth day, a final Scoring Phase determines the results.

Commissions are not the only source of Renown: players also score for Landscape Paintings they still possess at the end of the game. With its focus on timing, movement, painting, and changing opportunities, Sunset Over Water turns a six-day journey into a concise search for inspiration and recognition.
