About this board game
Super Farmer is a family board game for 2–6 players that takes about 20 minutes. Each player manages an animal farm, breeding and exchanging livestock in a race to collect at least one rabbit, sheep, pig, cow, and horse.
On your turn, you may first exchange animals using the game’s special trade table. For example, six rabbits can be exchanged for one sheep, while three pigs can become one cow. You then roll two special 12-sided dice marked with animal symbols and predators.
Matching animals on the dice and on your farm produce offspring, with the number of pairs determining how many new animals you receive. However, foxes can snatch your rabbits, while wolves can eat your other animals. Dogs provide protection, making them valuable insurance when deciding whether to build a stronger herd or take a risk.
- Breed and trade: Grow your livestock and exchange animals according to the table.
- Manage risk: Choose between fast-breeding rabbits, more valuable animals, and protective dogs.
- Race to complete your farm: Gather one of each required animal type to win.
Although Super Farmer relies heavily on dice luck, its choices give players room for simple strategy. Will you invest in expensive animals that reproduce less often, stay with rapidly breeding rabbits, or spend resources on dogs to defend your progress?
The game was designed by Polish mathematician Karol Borsuk in occupied Poland during World War Two. Originally called “Hodowla zwierzątek” (“Animal husbandry”), early copies were handmade by his wife, Zofia Borsukowa. The game was intended for children but can also be enjoyable for adults, and it was later reimplemented as Have You Herd? and Rancho.
