About this board game

Sword and Sail is a 2–5 player board game with an approximately 30-minute play time, released in 2004. Set at the dawn of a new era, it invites players to explore new lands, strengthen their armies, construct ships, and guide small tribes toward empire.

The goal is clear: be the first player to control an entire empire. To achieve this, your armies and navies—the small tokens used in the game—must occupy every region belonging to an empire. Each placement brings you closer to complete control while the other players pursue their own expansion.

Armies and navies enter the game through action cards. These cards provide the means to place your forces on the board, turning the map into a changing contest for regional control. The central challenge is to build your presence across all the regions of an empire before another player succeeds.

  • Players: 2–5
