About this board game
Talon is a tactical space combat game for 2–6 players, with battles that typically take about 90 minutes. Set during the First Talon War, it pits the Terran Confederation against the Talon Empire in fleet engagements across a growing universe.
This is a game of capital-ship combat, not primarily fighter combat. Players can fight with individual ships or quickly manage fleets of three to ten vessels, assessing each ship’s distinct features and each faction’s unique abilities while maneuvering across a hex-based map.
Every ship must balance its limited energy between shields, weapons, sensors, and maneuverability. The streamlined Power Curve system connects energy availability to speed, letting players adjust how much power a ship can use to charge weapons, reinforce shields, or improve its turns—while ensuring there is never enough for everything.
Large, laminated ship counters display each vessel’s systems directly on the map. Players can mark damage and other information with a dry-erase marker, keeping key details visible as firing arcs, shield arcs, movement, and range shape the battle.
- Terran and Talon fleets with multiple ship classes
- Six weapon systems, including missiles that track on the board
- Four shield arcs, fighter squadrons, bases, and transports
- Asteroids, planets, nebulae, black holes, and wormholes
- Twelve scenarios featuring escort missions, planetary invasions, and base assaults
Beyond its scenario-based battles, Talon includes lifetime score tracking, a point system for purchasing ships, and an Empire War campaign with dynamic strategic-level decisions. With no hidden information or simultaneous action, it can also be played solitaire, while the campaign and scenario tools support varied engagements throughout the Talonverse.
