About this board game

Tanuki Market is a simultaneous-play set collection game for 1–5 players, with sessions lasting about 20 minutes. As tanuki sneaking through Grandma’s grocery store, you must gather fruit and create the most diverse, beautiful display for your family.

At the start of each round, the player holding the Polo card draws fruit cards and distributes them among different carts. While the carts are being prepared—and at any time during this process—players race to claim one. The player who takes a cart adds its fruit cards to their five tables.

Every table awards a different value, from one to five points. However, each table can hold only one type of fruit, and you cannot place the same fruit on two tables. With strawberries, figs, bananas, pineapples, and watermelons available—and some fruits rarer than others—choosing when to grab a cart is crucial to building a diverse collection.

  • Simultaneous cart grabbing: Race to claim the cart that best fits your display.
  • Five scoring tables: Assign one fruit type to each table, with values ranging from one to five points.
  • Variable scoring: Some fruit cards provide special powers, while the Polo and Grandma cards can grant bonuses.

The game ends when the Grandma card is drawn, after which players finish the current round and count their points. In addition to table values, final scores account for fruit-card powers and bonuses from the Polo and Grandma cards.

Tanuki Market also includes an advanced variant with additional carts and a solo mode featuring a virtual player, offering more ways to enjoy its quick, competitive fruit-collecting challenge.
