Targi: The Expansion is an expansion for the two-player game Targi, designed for games of about 60 minutes. Released in 2016, it adds water, new tribe cards, the Targia pawn, and shifting sand cards to the desert tribe’s ongoing growth.

Water introduces greater flexibility to the way you extend your tribe. It functions as a joker: for example, two water tokens can be exchanged for any one goods token. Many of the new tribe cards, which replace the set from the base game, also let you choose whether to spend gold or water, making some builds easier to complete.

The Targia, a Tuareg woman, is a special pawn with a more positive effect than the robber. She begins in the opposite direction from the robber and moves one edge card each turn. When you place one of your Targi on her card, you receive a favor.

• Take a goods token of your choice.
• Spend one good to reveal the top card of the draw pile and receive what it shows.

This favor can make a less attractive edge card worth considering, adding another reward to your placement decisions. The expansion also introduces shifting sand cards, which provide strong immediate advantages when you place a Targi on them.

These shifting sands are placed next to the central playing area, however, so using them costs you an intersection on the central cards. With new ways to acquire goods, flexible building costs, and additional placement choices, Targi: The Expansion broadens the tactical possibilities while preserving the game’s focused two-player structure.
