About this board game

Tessen is a two-player real-time card game that plays in about 15 minutes. Both players simultaneously take animal cards from their decks and play them into groups in front of them.

Each player can create up to five groups of animal cards. Sets of three or more may be saved, offering an important choice between building groups and protecting them from an opponent’s warrior.

When a warrior attacks, the player being targeted must give up the attacked animal cards. The attacking player may then take those cards for their own, making every group a potential target and giving warrior cards a powerful role in the game.

Warriors are not only used offensively. A warrior can also be played to defend, nullifying an opponent’s warrior and preventing its effect. Watching for attacks while deciding when to save a set creates a lively contest throughout the short play time.
