About this board game

The Eagle and The Star is a card-driven board game for 2–4 players, covering the Polish-Soviet War campaign of 1920 in approximately 180 minutes.

Players take command of either the Red Army, seeking to defeat Poland and bring communism to Europe, or Polish generals attempting to stop the Red Army and establish a Polish-Soviet border. The game presents a conflict whose outcome was considered highly important to Europe after the First World War.

Cards are central to play, and every card offers four possible uses. It can be played as a Historical Event, an Order count, Replacement Points, or a Battle modifier that is used only during battles. Choosing how to use each card creates difficult decisions throughout the campaign.

Orders form the heart of the system. Players issue orders secretly, then reveal them according to their characteristics and the current Initiative. Free “bluff” Orders make it harder to deduce an opponent’s plans and help conceal your true objectives.

Armies are represented by wooden blocks, while battles use a simple, quick combat system with no dice. A randomization factor is still included, adding uncertainty without relying on dice rolls.

  • Rulebook with 5 scenarios
  • Board and 110 cards: 55 Soviet and 55 Polish
  • 105 wooden blocks
  • 1 sheet of tokens

With its hidden orders, bluffing options, event cards, and fast combat resolution, The Eagle and The Star focuses on planning, concealment, and the choices that shape a campaign across the Polish-Soviet front.
