About this board game
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – Strategy Battle Game is a tabletop fantasy wargame for two players, with games lasting around 30 minutes. Using miniature models, players recreate adventures from Peter Jackson’s film and fight small-scale skirmishes in Middle-earth.
Players choose and collect armies of models, then use the rules to move their miniatures and resolve battles. The game’s 288-page, full-colour manual explains how the game works while also providing scenarios that recreate events from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
- Tabletop fantasy battles for two players
- Small-scale skirmishes fought with miniature models
- Scenarios based on events from the film
- Rules, scenarios and hobby sections in a 288-page full-colour manual
Players can build their forces from a range of models designed by Alan Perry, Michael Perry and Aly Morrison. These miniatures are available from Games Workshop in Finecast and plastic, while the armies themselves are described in separate Warhammer army books.
Featuring Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf, Thorin Oakenshield and his companions, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey brings the film’s characters into a miniature wargaming setting. It is a revision of The Lord of the Rings: Strategy Battle Game, offering a dedicated way to stage battles and adventures from the first Hobbit film.
