About this expansion

The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game – The Sands of Harad is a deluxe expansion for 1–2 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Released in 2016, it takes players south of Middle-earth on a perilous journey through Harad.

Set immediately after the events of The Grey Havens and the Dream-chaser cycle, the expansion begins with an escape through the streets of Umbar. From there, three scenarios carry your heroes from the coast into the desert of Harad, before bringing them back within reach of Mordor and the Dark Lord’s Orcs.

  • Three scenarios spanning Umbar, the Harad desert, and lands threatened by Mordor
  • Ferocious Haradrim, deadly desert predators, and gruelling environmental effects
  • Ancient animosities between the Men of Gondor and the Men of Harad
  • New heroes, allies, and player cards for every sphere of influence
  • A side quest that lets you ignore resource matching on the first ally you play each turn

The Sands of Harad also introduces the possibility of desperate alliances. One pair of heroes makes each other stronger, while a cluster of new player cards rewards decks built around paired Traits, offering tremendous benefits when their conditions are met.

As your journeys unfold, you will face hostile cultures, dangerous environments, and threats unlike those encountered before. With its combination of scenario-driven exploration, challenging enemies, and new deck-building possibilities, The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game – The Sands of Harad expands the adventure into a strange and dangerous region of Middle-earth.
