About this board game

The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 is a hidden identity board game for 4–8 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Set during the bleak Antarctic winter, it places a team of researchers inside the isolated U.S. Outpost 31.

A hostile extraterrestrial lifeform has infiltrated the facility and created a perfect imitation of one crew member. As the team struggles to survive, everyone must confront the same terrifying question: who can be trusted?

Players take the roles of characters from the Outpost 31 crew and lead a series of investigations through the claustrophobic facility. Supplies and equipment are used to clear the building while the group searches for signs of infection.

  • Hidden identities: One of the team may have been assimilated by the alien lifeform.
  • Investigations: Sweep the facility in a desperate effort to discover the infection.
  • Paranoia and tension: Question the loyalty of every member of the team.
  • A race for survival: Purge the infection and escape to warn McMurdo Station.

With twelve characters to play and a dangerous alien presence concealed among the researchers, every decision can intensify the uncertainty. The team must work through the facility while trying to determine whether its apparent allies are still human.

Inspired by John Carpenter’s science-fiction cult classic, The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31 captures the escalating suspicion of a group trapped in the frigid darkness. Investigate, manage the available resources, and race to save humanity before the infection spreads beyond the outpost.
