About this expansion

Thunderstone: Avatars is a 25-card expansion for 1–5 players, with games taking about 90 minutes. Released in 2012, it adds variable player powers through five different avatar cards, with five copies of each card.

Each avatar provides abilities that can shape your choices in the village, dungeon, or during spoils. The Cleric draws one card for each disease present in the village and can discard 1 XP during spoils to destroy 1 card.

The Fighter makes weapons weigh 1 point less. In the dungeon, one weapon is considered equipped even without a hero to equip it, allowing you to use that weapon’s abilities and traits.

  • Ranger: Switch the positions of two adjacent monsters in the hall, or reveal the top dungeon card and attack it as if it were 1 rank deeper than the monster in the last rank.
  • Thief: Buy items and weapons for 1 fewer gold, or discard 2 XP to make each other player discard a card.
  • Wizard: When purchasing a spell, draw an additional card when drawing a new hand. In the dungeon, after using a spell’s ability, discard 2 XP to gain Magic Attack +3.

With five distinct powers, Thunderstone: Avatars gives the game’s players different card-driven abilities to use across village purchases, dungeon encounters, and spoils. Its compact set of 25 cards adds focused variety while preserving the core Thunderstone setting and terminology.
