About this board game
Trails of Tucana with Ferry Expansion is a quick flip-and-write game for 1–8 players, with a play time of about 15 minutes. Each player receives a map of Tucana where the positions of villages and important sights are randomized, creating a unique puzzle in every game.
Each turn, one player reveals two terrain cards. Everyone must then draw a trail between two neighboring spaces showing the revealed terrains. As the game progresses, these individual connections grow into networks of roads across the island.
Players score by connecting matching harbors and by linking sights to harbors. The first player to connect a pair of harbors earns bonus points, encouraging players to plan their routes carefully while watching the opportunities developing on their own map.
- Ferry expansion included: Explore the two additional island maps, Isla Bahía and Isla Habita.
- Ferry crossings: On both new maps, ferries help players cross the bays.
- New challenges: Isla Habita adds three additional villages.
- Variable terrain: Different terrain cards appear with different distributions, affecting how likely particular routes are to become possible.
Terrain cards are not equally common: mountain cards are rarer than desert cards, making some trails more difficult to build than others. Successful players must account for these probabilities and make useful plans for whatever combination of terrain cards appears.
With accessible rules and meaningful route decisions, Trails of Tucana offers a compact puzzle that works across a wide player range. The Ferry expansion adds fresh maps and new ways to think about crossing the island’s bays.
