About this board game
Ubongo 3D is a puzzle game for 2–4 players with a 30-minute play time, released in 2009. Players place wooden tiles over two layers shown on puzzle cards, then collect gemstones based on their performance.
Each puzzle card offers two levels of play. One side is designed for beginner players, while the other presents a more advanced challenge, giving the game two distinct difficulty options within its card-based puzzle format.
The three-dimensional structure is central to Ubongo 3D: players must work with wooden pieces across both layers of a card rather than filling a single flat area. As the game progresses, performance is represented by gemstones, adding a collection element to the spatial puzzle experience.
- For 2–4 players
- 30-minute play time
- Wooden tiles placed over two layers
- Two-sided puzzle cards with beginner and advanced sides
- Gemstones collected according to performance
Ubongo 3D combines layered tile placement with a choice of difficulty. The two-sided cards allow players to use the beginner side or turn to the advanced side, while the gemstone system gives each performance a value that matters at the end of the game.
When the game ends, players compare the value of their gemstone collections. The player with the most valuable gem collection wins, making both the puzzles and the gemstones important parts of the final result.
