About this board game
Ulm is a board game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 75 minutes, set in the prosperous free imperial city of Ulm at the beginning of the 16th century.
The city is thriving through trade, skilled craftsmanship, and the movement of goods along the Danube. Wood, wine, salt, textiles, and works of art all contribute to Ulm’s wealth, while the cathedral rises as the social heart of the city and a meeting place for influential guilds and patricians.
In Ulm, players seek to expand their spheres of influence and make the best use of the activity surrounding the marketplace near the cathedral. The game’s central rule is simple: push one Action tile into the Cathedral area, then carry out its three associated actions.
- Push an Action tile into the Cathedral area.
- Perform the three actions associated with that tile.
- Use your opportunities across different areas of city life to gather victory points.
Every action helps the cathedral tower grow taller, bringing the city closer to the end of construction. The game concludes after the 10th round, so players must use their means and resources effectively over time.
Victory comes from accumulating the most points before the cathedral is completed. Success depends on making the most of the hustle and bustle around the marketplace and building a place among Ulm’s important citizens. Will your influence and decisions ensure that your name goes down in the city’s history?
With its historic setting and focused action system, Ulm presents a concise contest for influence, opportunity, and prosperity in a city at its heyday.
