About this board game

Unboxed is a puzzle experience for 1–4 players that takes about 60 minutes, in which you become an archaeology intern reconstructing ancient board games.

Under the direction of Dr. Ramos, your team investigates ten caches uncovered at an archaeological dig site. Each cache contains a specific set of components and a few questions to guide your research, while the passage of centuries has left the original rulebooks in poor condition.

Rather than following complete instructions, you must infer how each game was played. Examine the available pieces, evaluate their symbols and relationships, then use your board game experience and intuition to develop a set of rules that makes the components work together.

• Examine: study the components and questions provided by each dig site.
• Evaluate: work out how the pieces, symbols, and possible rules connect.
• Play: test your reconstruction once you believe you have recreated a functional game.

Dr. Ramos is on hand to provide hints as your theories take shape and to help you test your designs across all ten scenarios. The experience combines deduction, experimentation, and an appreciation for how games communicate through their components.
