About this board game

Urban Operations is a tactical modern warfare board game for 1–6 players, with an approximate play time of 300 minutes. Released in 2017, it uses blocks, maps, cards, and counters to represent complex urban battles.

Its signature system uses wooden blocks to simulate the Fog of War, while rotating blocks shows unit hits. Terrain symbols and dedicated rules represent weapon effects, making firepower a central consideration during urban fighting.

The map system supports distant fire, including exchanges between buildings, as well as close-quarters combat from room to room. Explosives can breach walls, and shells can produce collateral effects. Civilian populations are also represented, complicating how forces use weapons, particularly against irregular opponents.

Tactical leaders provide an important asset to assault squads, while combat service support teams can deliver logistical support to the frontline and enhance the operational status of units. Urban Operations includes three campaigns and 16 scenarios:

• Fulda: NATO versus the Warsaw Pact, with six scenarios.
• Mogadishu: six scenarios.
• Four Aces: elite units from four nations, including US Marines in Fallujah, the French Foreign Legion at Kolwezi, Russian Paratroopers in Groszny, and British Desert Rats in Bassrah.

The boxed game contains five maps, two underground maps, 199 die-cut counters, 160 wooden blocks, cards, dice, rules booklets, campaign rules, scenario player aids, and English player aids. Together, these components support a detailed system for managing visibility, damage, fire, logistics, and the challenges of fighting in built-up areas.
