About this board game
Walls of York is a 2–4 player board game with a 30-minute playing time, in which architects compete to design a protective wall around a developing city.
York is growing, but its buildings remain vulnerable to Viking raids. Using the included plastic wall pieces, each player must construct a defensive barrier around the buildings on their city map. The King’s decree also identifies buildings that must be enclosed, adding an important requirement to every design.
On each turn, the building die determines which types of walls are available for construction. Players must use those pieces to shape their defenses and surround the city’s buildings. The challenge is to create an enclosure that satisfies the required conditions before the age comes to an end.
- Build defensive walls around the buildings on your city map.
- Use the building die to determine which wall types are available.
- Enclose the buildings required by the King’s decree.
- Earn coins over two ages to determine the winner.
But the first design is not the final one. At the end of the first age, the Vikings arrive and lay waste to the city, forcing players to build their walls anew during the second age. This makes Walls of York a game of repeated construction, as each architect must adapt to a fresh opportunity to protect the city.
After the second age ends, the architect with the most coins wins and earns the title of the greatest architect in all the land. With its physical wall pieces, changing construction requirements, and two-stage structure, Walls of York offers a focused contest of city defense and architectural planning.
