About this board game
WestFront: The War in Europe, 1943-45 is a two-player World War II wargame with an approximately 240-minute playing time, covering the conflict between the Allies and Germany from 1943 through 1945.
Players must manage the pressures of production, supply, command control, and weather while attempting to break the opposing side’s lines. Additional rules cover amphibious invasions, and several scenarios represent major points in the war.
The game uses Columbia Games’ distinctive Block system. Instead of traditional counters, units are represented by wooden blocks that stand upright, with their details visible only to their owner. This creates a practical fog of war: opponents cannot identify a block’s unit type or current strength without relying on memory.
Blocks also track changing unit strength by rotating to show the current strength on top. With four sides available for strength information, the system supports more unit steps than counters that typically have only two sides, adding detail without requiring extra layers of bookkeeping.

WestFront is one part of the EuroFront series, which covers the entire European conflict of World War II. It was later re-implemented as WestFront II: The War in Europe 1943-45 – Second Edition and expanded by EuroFront: War in Europe, 1939-45.
