What’s Missing?

About this board game

What’s Missing? is a drawing game for 3–6 players that plays in about 20 minutes. It challenges players to make others recognize a hidden line drawing from only the parts they choose to show.

The game includes 240 cards featuring line drawings sorted by difficulty. At the start of a round, each player takes a card and hides it behind a cardboard screen. They then place transparent paper over the card and draw another picture on it, aiming to give the other players enough information to identify what is hidden.

When the drawings are finished, the drawer reveals only the transparent paper. The other players study the visible drawing and try to guess what is missing from it. A player who guesses correctly earns 1 point; if nobody finds the right answer, the drawer loses 1 point.

Success in What’s Missing? depends more on being clever than on being a skilled artist. The drawer must decide which elements will communicate the answer while leaving enough absent for the guessing challenge to remain meaningful.

The game also offers flexibility for younger drawers. They can give the other players a clue about the kind of things shown on the card, helping them take part while preserving the central challenge of identifying what is missing.
