About this expansion

Wing Leader: Origins 1936-1942 is a two-player aerial combat expansion for the Wing Leader system, with games lasting about 180 minutes. A copy of Wing Leader: Victories 1940-1942 is required to play.

This third expansion from GMT explores the thrilling air battles of the inter-war and early-war period. It brings biplanes and fast monoplanes into combat over Spain, China, and Poland, recreating confrontations between a wide range of national forces and aircraft.

  • Nationalist CR.32s face “Red” I-15s over Madrid.
  • Soviet volunteers fly “Chaikas” against Japanese “Claudes” above China.
  • Bf 109s defend battleships in Brest against streams of British Wellingtons, Halifaxes, and Manchesters.

Origins also expands the aircraft roster with pre-war German warplanes such as the He 46 and He 51, Polish fighters and bombers including the PZL P.11, and American Curtiss aircraft such as the CW-21 Interceptor. These additions support new scenarios focused on the varied air combats of the era.

A major feature is the included Malta Spitfires campaign system. This campaign recreates two days of the German and Italian maximum effort against Malta in 1942, simulating tough attrition battles over the islands.

With its historical settings, broad selection of aircraft, and dedicated campaign, Wing Leader: Origins brings major air combats from the years before and during the early war directly to the gaming table.
