Word Basket

About this board game

Word Basket is a 2–8 player word game that takes about 10 minutes to play, combining kana cards, linked-word play, and quick decisions.

Each player has a hand of cards and takes turns throwing cards into the plastic basket. When playing a card, the player must also shout out a word that follows the card’s instruction. The goal is to respond accurately while keeping the word chain moving.

Some cards show kana. When one of these cards is thrown, the player calls out a word that ends with the kana on the card. Other cards show a number—5, 6, or 7+—and require a word with the corresponding number of kana.

• Kana cards: Name a word that ends with the kana shown.
• Number cards: Name a word with 5, 6, or 7+ kana, as indicated.
• Wild cards: Add a flexible card type to the deck.
• Word chain: Every word must start with the letter that the previous word ended with.

The word-chain rule means that each answer connects to the last one, so players must pay attention to both the card being played and the preceding word. A turn can therefore test recognition, word knowledge, and speed at the same time.

With its compact playing time and simple turn structure, Word Basket is designed for a lively group of 2 to 8 players. The game includes a plastic basket and a deck of cards containing kana, numbers, and wild cards, making the components central to its distinctive play experience.
