About this board game

Yohei is a Japanese folklore-inspired fantasy wargame for 2–4 players, with battles lasting around 90 minutes. Players face one another as asymmetric clans across modular boards, using dice rolling, grid movement, card management, and distinct player powers to pursue victory.

The game unfolds in a country torn apart by civil war under a false emperor. Ancient handwritten accounts tell of two forged doors beneath the island of Jiin, sealing away infernal forces expelled by Arashi, “the Exiled.” As rumors spread that these demons may return, the population waits for a hero who can end the tyranny of the throne.

During each battle, players develop their strategy by acquiring warriors, constructing buildings, and invoking powerful event cards. Legendary weapons can also shape the conflict, adding further options as rival clans maneuver across the changing battlefield.

  • Asymmetric clans with different capabilities
  • Modular boards for varied battlefields
  • Dice rolling and grid-based movement
  • Card management featuring events and legendary weapons
  • Warrior acquisition and building construction

Yohei combines tactical movement with a broad set of strategic tools, letting players adapt their plans as the battle develops. Its modular boards and multiple game modes support different encounters within a fantasy universe shaped by mysticism, civil war, and the threat of returning demons.

Released in 2020, Yohei is designed for players looking for an asymmetrical tabletop battle that blends Japanese-inspired lore with troop management, construction, and dramatic card-driven effects.
