Saltfjord

About this board game

Saltfjord is a 2024 board game for 1–4 players, with sessions lasting about 90 minutes. Set in a northern Norwegian fishing village at the end of the 19th century, it asks you to guide your settlement through change and opportunity.

Across three rounds, players draft dice to activate buildings on their individual settlement grids. Each die corresponds to a row or column, activating every building in that line. As you erect more buildings, each die can trigger more of your settlement and provide additional resources and opportunities.

Your available actions help shape the future of the village. You can send your fishing boat out to collect fish, complete trade orders, build new structures, or advance along technology tracks. These tracks unlock special abilities, including ways to upgrade your fishing boat, while fishing remains an important part of everyday life in Saltfjord.

• Dice drafting: Choose dice to activate rows or columns in your settlement.
• Settlement building: Add buildings to make each die activate more of your grid.
• Multiple paths forward: Gather fish, trade, construct buildings, and develop new technologies.
• Variable setup: Special abilities and end-scoring tiles change between games.

Loosely based on the dice-drafting mechanisms from Santa Maria, Saltfjord has otherwise been completely redesigned and expanded with new elements. Its variable setup adds replayability as you discover different combinations of available abilities and scoring goals.
