About this board game
I·C·E: Second Edition is an exploration and collection game for 1–5 players, with an approximately 120-minute playing time. Set in a frozen world, it challenges players to lead archaeological expeditions into the Valley of the Nuuka, where the remains of an antediluvian civilization may lie buried beneath the ice.
Players are archaeologists representing the City’s guilds, each driven by its own motivations. They explore a three-dimensional arrangement of tiles and remove them to reveal artifacts. Excavation reaches through three levels: the ice sheet, the surface artifact level, and the deep artifact level, with the City of Azulia forming the bottom layer.
- Explore and mine: Remove tiles from the frozen site to uncover what lies below.
- Collect artifacts: Recovered artifacts provide reputation points.
- Use ice sheet tiles: Tiles removed from the ice sheet can be played as helping actions.
- Discover edifices: Edifice tiles introduce game-changing rules and represent legacy material uncovered during the expedition.
The excavation changes as discoveries are made. Ice sheet tiles can support your efforts, while edifice tiles bring new rules into the game, making each discovery an important part of the developing expedition.
The game ends when the first edifice tile is fully discovered. Players then count their reputation points to determine the winner. The stated objective is to validate Requests and score Decrees from the City, seeking the highest number of Renown points when the fourth Day is over.
With its layered tile structure, archaeological theme, and evolving discoveries, I·C·E: Second Edition presents a focused contest for prestige, answers, and riches in a world of seemingly endless ice. It was released in 2026.
