About this board game

Theurgy is a strategic area-control game for 1–6 players, with games lasting around 180 minutes. Each player takes the role of a half-forgotten god competing to restore faith, establish temples, and become the dominant religion.

To win, you must meet one of three conditions at the end of your turn: become the Official Faith by building the required temples, including one in the Capital; fulfil your Calling by building even more temples and completing a secret objective; or spread across the land by constructing temples anywhere on the board. The number of temples required depends on the player count.

Every turn gives you one of four distinct choices:

  • Pilgrimage: Move acolytes and followers between settlements, preach to convert inhabitants, or fight monsters threatening your following.
  • Spread the Word: Place or replace a faith token to strengthen your cultural influence and make future temple construction easier.
  • Divine Intervention: Play a miracle card, summon a monster from the central area, or activate monsters you have already summoned.
  • Test the Faith: Trigger an anomalous event and let the settlement’s followers, cultural influence, and scepticism determine which temple is built—and which may be destroyed.

Success in Theurgy depends on timing, careful card management, and knowing when to press your advantage. Miracles, combinations of monsters, and each deity’s unique power can create unexpected opportunities, while rival influence must be undermined before it becomes too firmly established.

With territory to contest, followers to convert, and several routes to victory, Theurgy rewards players who can quietly establish a presence in unlikely places before revealing the full strength of their divine ambitions.
