About this board game
Torpedo Run! is a two-player naval battle game with an approximately 60-minute playing time, released in 1986 as part of MB’s Floor Wars Series. Designed for play on the floor—or on a suitably large surface such as Ping-Pong tables—it uses an enormous board measuring 34½ × 46½ inches.
Each player commands four very large World War II-era ship miniatures: one battleship and three escort ships. Players manoeuvre their fleets across the expansive playing area while lining up attacks against specific locations along the opposing ships’ waterlines.
The game’s signature component is a torpedo launcher shaped like a submarine. Rather than using conventional dice or tokens to represent an attack, players fire discs that glide across the playing surface toward the target ships.
- Huge floor-play board measuring 34½ × 46½ inches
- Four large WWII ship miniatures for each player
- Submarine-shaped torpedo launchers
- Gliding discs that simulate launched torpedoes
- Rubber-band mechanisms that create visible damage effects
Along the ship waterlines, slots allow a fired disc to slide beneath the miniature and trip a rubber-band mechanism. When activated, part of the ship’s superstructure or its gun turrets is sent flying, creating a striking physical simulation of damage.
As an introduction to naval miniatures, Torpedo Run! combines large-scale ship manoeuvring with direct, action-focused targeting. Its oversized presentation, unusual launcher, and flying ship components make it a distinctive Floor Wars experience built for two players and a very large playing space.
