About this board game
Gimbap is a real-time food-making game for 2–4 players that takes about 30 minutes to play. Everyone races to assemble their ingredients into gimbap while meeting the detailed requests shown on customer dice.
To begin, each player takes a set of ingredients: gim, a sheet of bap, cheese, perilla leaves, and wooden strips of ham, spinach, and danmuji. These components must be arranged according to the customer’s requirements, making the physical construction of each gimbap part of the challenge.
At the start of each round, reveal point tokens equal to the number of players minus one. The challenge uses 2–4 customer dice, with each die showing different ingredient-placement requests. For example, cheese may need to touch—or not touch—the gim, ham may need to avoid both spinach and danmuji, and rice may need to touch the danmuji. Using more dice creates a harder puzzle.
- Arrange the ingredients to satisfy the customer’s requests.
- Finish by rolling the gim and securing the gimbap with its velcro.
- Race to take the highest-value point token still available.
Once everyone has finished, players check their creations in order of token value. A successful player turns their token face down and keeps it. If the gimbap fails to meet the requests, the token passes to the next player who finished, with special rules applying when a player has two tokens.
After all tokens have been claimed, the player with the most points wins. With simultaneous play, tactile components, and increasingly demanding customer requests, Gimbap turns a race to make food into a race for points.
