About this board game
Outremer is a grand strategy game for 2–4 players, with an approximate play time of 180 minutes. Set in the Levant during the 12th century, shortly after the First Crusade, it places each player in control of one of four Crusader states.
Expand your influence and increase the wealth of your domain by developing cities, managing trade, appointing viceroys, sending spies, and leading battle-hardened knights into war. Military strength matters, but success also depends on careful planning, resource decisions, and the ability to respond when events disrupt your plans.
A central planning system called the Cross of Orders creates difficult choices throughout the game. You may occupy an empty slot to profit at another player’s expense, choose a valuable action while paying another player for it, or sacrifice a turn to prepare a powerful action for the next round.
- Two layers of territory control: compete through military dominance and religious influence, with bishops using an area-majority mechanic.
- Card-driven combat: combine cards and a measure of luck in battles against rival players and the game-driven Saracen enemy.
- Persistent campaign: explore four interconnected scenarios, each introducing a new mechanic and carrying progress forward.
Event cards and relentless Saracen raids can shatter even the most carefully prepared strategy, forcing players to decide what they are willing to sacrifice for a coveted victory. Alongside its standalone mode, Outremer offers a story-driven campaign that gives familiar systems a fresh perspective across multiple scenarios.
