About this expansion
Ghost Stories: White Moon is an expansion for 1–4 players that adds a challenging village-rescue mission to the ghost-fighting game, with a play time of about 90 minutes.
During setup, villagers are placed across the village tiles, while the Moon Portal occupies one remaining tile. Its position changes the challenge: it is in the center for normal difficulty, on the side for a harder game, or in a corner for masochistic players.
Villagers can follow monks when they move. To rescue one, a monk must bring that villager to the Moon Portal and take a special rescue action. Villagers belong to families of one, two, or three members, and rescuing an entire family grants a reward.
- Small families can provide rewards such as an extra Qi or an artifact that moves other monks to the active monk’s tile.
- Larger families offer powerful rewards, including a sword that turns one die to white during each exorcism or armor that cancels ghosts’ come-into-play effects.
- Some ghosts can kill villagers, triggering the family’s curse.
These curses range from losing a Tao token from the game to bringing an additional Wu-Feng incarnation into play. The village becomes even more dangerous when a tile is haunted: villagers die, while haunters can force them to flee. Any villager unable to flee is killed.
With its added rescue actions, family rewards, fleeing villagers, and severe consequences, Ghost Stories: White Moon gives monks another urgent responsibility while they confront the ghosts.
