Lord of the Rings: Friends & Foes

About this expansion

Lord of the Rings: Friends & Foes is a 2001 expansion for 2–5 players that adds new content to The Lord of the Rings board game, with a playing time of about 90 minutes.

This expansion introduces two new scenario boards: Bree and Isengard. These additions broaden the scenarios available in the game while bringing new feature cards and Gandalf cards to the table.

• Foe cards
• Character Ability cards

Foe cards add a major new aspect to the game, expanding the experience with a completely new type of card. The expansion also introduces Character Ability cards, giving each character a unique one-shot ability.

Alongside its new scenarios and cards, Friends & Foes adds more variety through abilities that are distinct to each character. Because these abilities are one-shot effects, they form a clearly defined new feature of the expansion.

The expansion was later expanded by The Black Gate, also known as Das Schwarze Tor. This is a small four-card package that was given away free at conventions, fairs, or game stores, and it is also freely printable from the Reiner Knizia Promos webpage or the files section of the expansion.
