Kingdom Builder: Crossroads is a 2–5-player game with a playing time of about 45 minutes, introducing new landscapes, abilities, and scoring challenges for shaping a kingdom.

Four new landscapes provide different ways to develop the game board, with two different location spaces on each section. The usual setup and gameplay rules apply, while new pieces and location abilities create additional options for building settlements.

• Warriors: Two per player, placed with the barracks ability to prevent building actions on adjacent spaces.
• Wagons: One per player, placed with the wagon ability and movable across the game board.
• Ships: One per player, placed with the lighthouse ability and movable across water spaces.
• City halls: One per player, occupying seven building spaces and counting as seven regular settlements for scoring and placement.

Crossroads introduces eight unique location abilities, with two on each of the four game board sections. These abilities give players new ways to position their pieces and shape the kingdom while following the familiar rules.

The set also adds six task cards for extra end-game scoring. After the three Kingdom Builder cards are selected as usual, one task card is randomly chosen for each Crossroads game section in play. These tasks reward specific achievements, such as having a settlement on each of the four map edges, and can provide even more gold at the end of the game.

Released in 2013, Kingdom Builder: Crossroads combines familiar gameplay with new movement options, strategic restrictions, and objectives that challenge players to build their settlements in carefully considered ways.
