About this expansion

A Game of Thrones: The Card Game – Princes of the Sun is a card expansion for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Released in 2009, it provides an essential foundation for playing House Martell in the LCG environment.

Princes of the Sun focuses on the defiant and treacherous vengeance-seekers of the Dornish sands. Its cards feature memorable Martell figures including Prince Doran, Princess Arianne Martell, Areo Hotah, Ser Arys Oakheart, Darkstar, the Daynes of Sunspear, and the Red Viper himself.

House Martell’s distinctive approach centers on icon manipulation, producing influence, and punishing opponents through vengeance. The House’s counterintuitive strategy is described as “winning through losing”: allow an opponent to win certain challenges so you can win others or gain another benefit.

  • Cards supporting competitive House Martell deck-building
  • Iconic Martell characters and the Daynes of Sunspear
  • Tools for icon manipulation, influence production, and vengeance
  • A “Civil War” variant for competing over the limited resources of a single deck

The 2011 revised edition, marked “Revised Edition” on the front of the box, includes three copies of each of the 60 unique cards from the original printing. This gives players a full play set for immediately beginning competitive House Martell deck-building.

Whether you are seeking the Martells’ signature mechanics or exploring a deck that turns an opponent’s apparent success into punishment, Princes of the Sun showcases a compelling path to victory through calculated setbacks and bloodthirsty responses.
