About this expansion
BattleTech: Alpha Strike is a fast-playing tabletop miniatures wargame for two players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Set during the Clan Invasion, it brings futuristic armored combat to battles across the Inner Sphere.
Rather than using the detailed record sheets of classic BattleTech, each BattleMech and other game unit is represented by an abstracted Unit Card. This streamlined approach makes it possible to command individual ’Mechs in larger engagements while retaining the setting’s conflict between the Great Houses and the descendants of the lost Star League army.
Alpha Strike combines elements of the BattleForce rules with miniature-game rules for play on hexless terrain. It also supports hex-based battles, giving players flexibility in how they stage their conflicts and move forces across the battlefield.
- Fast-playing rules for futuristic armored combat
- Support for land, sea, and air units
- Hex-based and hexless terrain play
- Abstracted Unit Cards for individual BattleMechs and other units
- Sample armies and a ready-to-play campaign system
As in classic BattleTech, players use their forces to achieve objectives, generally by defeating or destroying opposing units. The abstracted rules allow battles to unfold more quickly, while offering less intricate detail than the full BattleTech game.
BattleTech: Alpha Strike provides the framework for fighting over control of the Inner Sphere one world at a time. To play, you need the book, dice, miniatures, and tabletop terrain, making it a flexible foundation for armored engagements on a grander scale.
