About this expansion

Magnum Sal: Muria is a 2012 board game for 2–5 players, with games lasting about 90 minutes. It adds a fifth player to Magnum Sal and introduces brine—“muria” in Latin—as a new resource to extract from the mines.

Alongside salt, players can now obtain brine and decide where shafts in the mine will be built. These decisions help each game of Magnum Sal play out a little differently, giving the mine layout a changing character from one session to the next.

New royal orders bring another way to use the expansion’s brine. These orders specifically require brine to fulfill, connecting the new resource with fresh objectives.

Magnum Sal: Muria also adds new components to the game. The set includes a game board featuring two new buildings, as well as mine foremen in each player color.

  • Brine as a new substance to extract from the mines
  • Mine shafts whose locations are decided during play
  • New royal orders that require brine
  • New mine tiles and two new tools
  • The capstan, the winning tool from a game design competition

With its additional player capacity, changing shaft locations, and new brine-focused content, the expansion broadens the original Magnum Sal experience while adding more elements to the mine and its royal orders. It is designed for groups of 2–5 and offers an approximately 90-minute game.
