About this expansion

Festung Budapest is a historical Advanced Squad Leader module for 2–4 players, with an approximate play time of 360 minutes. It covers the siege fighting in Buda, Hungary, from 1 January through 10 February 1945.

Set on the western side of the Hungarian capital, just west of the Castle Hill area, the module portrays the bitter struggle for the heart of the city. Players can explore 17 ASL scenarios and three Campaign Games depicting clashes between German, Hungarian, and Russian forces.

  • 17 scenarios set in Buda, including battles involving Axis, Hungarian, German, and Russian forces
  • 3 Campaign Games for extended campaigns
  • 4 22-inch × 28-inch maps and 9 countersheets
  • A full-color, three-hole-punched Chapter FB rules section covering FB1–FB46
  • New counters for Hungarian SMG units, assault engineers, Arrow Cross Militia, the Vannay Battalion, and the Buda Volunteer Regiment
  • German SS units, including assault engineers, plus Hungarian and Russian air support

The scenario dates span the siege’s final weeks, from Uncles and Pups on 1 January to Stalingrad Redux on 10 February. Scenario lengths range from five to nine turns, with the conflicts representing the changing composition of the forces defending and attacking Buda.

Festung Budapest is not a complete game. The Advanced Squad Leader Game System is required for play, making this module an addition for players who already own the core system and want a focused historical setting, new forces, maps, and campaign material.
