In Clayface mode, each hero receives a card indicating whether they are who they appear to be or are actually Clayface in hiding. The hidden information creates uncertainty among the heroes as the game unfolds.

At any time, the player controlling Clayface can reveal their true identity. They then transform into the massive Clayface and turn on their former friends, changing the situation dramatically.
