About this expansion

The Duke: Robert E. Howard Expansion is a two-player expansion for The Duke, with games lasting around 30 minutes. It adds four characters from the Robert E. Howard literary universe while preserving the core objective: capture your opponent’s Duke tile.

This expansion brings a distinctive literary theme to the tactical tile game. Its new characters are Conan the Barbarian, Kull the Conqueror, Dark Agnes de Chastillon, and Solomon Kane.

Using the expansion changes part of the core game’s starting tile set. Each Robert E. Howard character replaces a corresponding tile from the base game:

• Conan replaces the Champion.
• Kull replaces the Wizard.
• Agnes replaces the Ranger.
• Solomon Kane replaces the Priest.

The expansion rulebook offers two ways to add these tiles. Players can use a draft selection process, choosing between the expansion tiles and their opponent’s selections.

Alternatively, players can decide whether to accept an expansion tile in place of its corresponding core-game tile when that tile is drawn from the bag. This provides a choice between introducing the Robert E. Howard characters through a draft or incorporating them as the game develops.

Released in 2013, The Duke: Robert E. Howard Expansion is designed for two players and adds thematic variety without changing the major goal of The Duke. It is a focused way to bring Conan, Kull, Dark Agnes, and Solomon Kane into the game.
