About this expansion

The Duke: Musketeers Expansion is a two-player expansion for The Duke, with games lasting about 30 minutes. Released in 2013, it adds literary flair through seven characters from the Musketeers universe.

The expansion introduces D’Artagnon, Aramis, Porthos, Athos, Richlieu, Rochefort, and De Winter. It also changes how the game begins and how new tiles are deployed while the expansion is in use.

Using this expansion requires replacing specific tiles from the core game. The character substitutions are:

  • D’Artagnon replaces the Light Stained Duke.
  • Aramis replaces the Light Stained Wizard.
  • Porthos replaces the Light Stained Assassin.
  • Athos replaces the Light Stained Duchess.
  • Richlieu replaces the Dark Stained Duke.
  • Rochefort replaces the Dark Stained Wizard.
  • De Winter replaces the Dark Stained Duchess.

The starting tile set is modified as well, including the tiles that opposing sides begin with. These changes give the expansion its own setup while retaining the core game as its foundation.

The Duke: Musketeers Expansion also replaces the usual victory focus with a new set of winning conditions:

  1. The musketeer player wins by capturing Richlieu.
  2. The Richlieu player wins by capturing all musketeers currently on the board.

With its character replacements, revised deployment rules, and direct capture objectives, this expansion offers a distinct way to play The Duke for two players.
