About this expansion

A Game of Thrones: The Card Game – Ancient Enemies is a Chapter Pack for 2–4 players, with an approximately 60-minute play time. Released in 2008, it is the second monthly installment of fixed cards in the A Clash of Arms cycle.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s bestselling A Song of Ice and Fire saga, Ancient Enemies contains twenty different never-before-seen cards. These cards are designed to augment existing decks and add variety to the A Game of Thrones metagame.

The War of Five Kings has turned ancient rivalries into passionate hatreds. Across Westeros, the great Houses face enemies whose defeats carry special meaning, as old debts and long-standing conflicts guide their actions.

The pack’s edition affects its card distribution. The first edition included only one of each character card, while the second edition includes three copies of each card.

Ancient Enemies is part of the six-pack A Clash of Arms cycle:

  • The War of the Five Kings
  • Ancient Enemies
  • Sacred Bonds
  • Epic Battles
  • Battle of Ruby Ford
  • Calling the Banners

With its focus on rivalries, hatred, and the debts created by war, Ancient Enemies brings a distinct thematic chapter to the cycle while expanding the card pool for existing decks.
