About this expansion

Age of Steam Expansion: Australia & Tasmania is a railway-building expansion for 3–6 players, with a playing time of approximately 120 minutes.

Go down under and build railways across the uninhabitable Australian Outback and through mysterious Tasmania. Australia presents a demanding route-building challenge: the coastal regions of the East Coast are expensive to develop, while the cities in the west offer greater rewards for goods delivered to them.

Players must find a way to connect these distant parts of Australia while managing the costs of building along the coast. Reaching the western cities can make deliveries more valuable, creating a key objective as the railway network expands across the country.

Tasmania offers a different challenge. Goods are shuttled in from the mainland, and the goal is to establish an efficient distribution system that serves all of the island’s towns and cities.

  • Australia: Build through expensive East Coast regions and reach the higher-paying cities in the west.
  • Tasmania: Distribute goods arriving from the mainland across the island’s towns and cities.

With two distinct environments and contrasting railway challenges, this expansion adds new routes to consider for Age of Steam players. Australia & Tasmania was released in 2011 as part of the Spiel 2011 AoS/Steam map pack from Bézier Games.
