About this expansion

Fleet: First Mate is a 2014 board game for 1–6 players with a play time of 30 minutes. It is part of the Fleet: Arctic Bounty Kickstarter campaign and is available through other outlets.

The game features First Mate cards that are placed during setup near the License Card deck. Their value depends on the crate capacity of the boat they are on, creating a clear scoring distinction between boats that are still below capacity and those that have reached their maximum.

  • Quantity: 8 First Mate cards
  • Setup: Two First Mate cards per player are placed face up near the License Card deck
  • Scoring: A First Mate on a boat at maximum crate capacity is worth 5VP
  • Scoring otherwise: A First Mate is worth 2VP when the boat has not reached maximum crate capacity

This scoring rule makes the boat’s crate capacity central to evaluating a First Mate. The same card can be worth either 2VP or 5VP, depending on whether its boat has reached the maximum number of Crates.

For players familiar with the Fleet setting, Fleet: First Mate offers a focused card element built around this specific value change. During setup, the face-up cards are positioned beside the License Card deck, making their availability part of the game’s initial arrangement.

With support for 1–6 players and a listed 30-minute play time, Fleet: First Mate presents its scoring information in a concise format: place the First Mate cards during setup, then assess their value according to the crate capacity of their boats.
