About this board game

Haenyeo: Sea Divers of Jeju is a strategic game for 2–5 players, played in about 40 minutes, in which you become a haenyeo—one of Jeju Island’s free-diving women. Over 8 rounds, players explore the sea, gather valuable marine life, collect pearls, and help protect the ocean.

Each round, players secretly choose Dive Cards to determine how deep their divers will descend. Deeper dives can lead to rarer resources and pearls, but careful planning is essential: actions are only available while divers remain connected to the surface through a chain of placements.

Position your divers thoughtfully and avoid creating gaps that break your connection. The game combines simultaneous card selection with spatial positioning, so every decision requires both forward planning and tactical adaptation as the diving area develops.

  • Secretly select Dive Cards to control diving depth.
  • Use connected placements to keep divers linked to the surface.
  • Collect marine life, resources, and pearls from the sea.
  • Spend eggs to gain additional divers or exchange them for valuable items.
  • Clean up ocean pollution and use collected trash for distinctive end-game scoring opportunities.

Resource management adds another layer to each descent. Eggs can expand your diving options or be exchanged for valuable items, while trash gathered during cleanup contributes to scoring in unique ways at the end of the game.

In Haenyeo: Sea Divers of Jeju, success comes from balancing diving efficiency, valuable collections, spatial connections, and environmental care. The player who manages these competing priorities most effectively earns the highest score and wins.
