About this board game

Alien Menace is a science-fiction card game for exactly two players, with an average play time of 30 minutes. One player takes the role of the marines, while the other controls the aliens in a conflict over an invading force.

Each side has a unique deck of cards, giving both players their own set of resources and possibilities. The board is created from cards representing different rooms, drawn from a separate deck each turn, so the area of play develops as the game progresses.

The marine player travels through these rooms and fights alien creatures while searching for the portal. Finding the portal is the marines’ objective: they must locate it to stop the alien invasion. Meanwhile, the alien player uses creatures and other cards to oppose the marine advance.

  • Two-player science-fiction conflict: one player is the marines and one is the aliens.
  • Room-based exploration: new room cards are drawn from a separate deck each turn.
  • Card-driven combat: events, weapons, and creatures are used to fight the opposing side.
  • Flipping tokens: tokens add bonuses and an element of randomness.

Cards represent events, weapons, and creatures that players use during their struggle. Together with the changing room layout, these elements create a compact contest focused on movement, combat, and the search for the portal.

Released in 2011, Alien Menace combines exploration and confrontation in a short science-fiction game for two. Its distinct decks, evolving card-based board, and token effects shape each battle between marines and aliens.
