About this board game

Barony: Royal Edition is a strategy board game for 2–5 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Players take the roles of ambitious barons seeking to expand their dominion and become the new ruler.

On each turn, choose one of six actions to develop your territory or diminish your opponents’ influence. Recruitment adds two knights to a city, or three when that city is adjacent to a lake. With Movement, you can move one or two knights one space each. Moving a second knight into a space containing an opposing pawn or village removes those tokens and lets you take one resource from the village owner.

• Construction: Remove one or more knights from the board to build villages or strongholds, gaining one resource for each.
• New City: Replace one of your villages with a city and earn 10 victory points.
• Expedition: Remove two knights from your reserve, returning one to the box and placing the other on any empty edge space.
• Noble Title: Discard at least 15 resource points to advance from baron through viscount, count, and marquis to duke.

As your domain grows, you must decide when to build, recruit, maneuver, or pursue a higher title. The game ends after a player gains the title of duke: finish the current round, then tally victory points from remaining resources, rank, and the number of cities built. The player with the most points wins.

This 2025 Royal Edition includes the Barony: Sorcery expansion and all-new asymmetric player powers, adding more variety to the contest for supremacy. In Barony, every action brings you closer to the throne—or gives your opponents room to advance.
