About this expansion

Battles of Westeros: Brotherhood Without Banners is a 2011 expansion for two players, with games taking around 60 minutes. It introduces the Brotherhood Without Banners as a new ally force for a primary House, including House Stark or House Lannister from the Core Set.

This expansion adds variety through new unit types, cards, commanders, and a rulebook containing four new scenarios. The Brotherhood can supplement a House’s forces in regular play or be used with the Skirmish rules, bringing a distinct presence to the battlefield.

Three new commanders lead these warriors, who are sworn to protect the smallfolk against those who would harm them:

  • Lord Beric Dondarrion, the Lightning Lord, is a swift leader who fights with a flaming sword.
  • Anguy, the Archer, is renowned across Westeros for devastating accuracy and can use his surroundings to avoid capture.
  • Thoros of Myr, the red priest of R’hllor, is a formidable warrior whose greatest strength is helping fallen Brotherhood members.

The Brotherhood units use tan-colored miniatures, but they do not include banner or pole components. These outlaw warriors answer to no liege lord and ride under no flag. Instead of normal activation rules, they are controlled through a new mechanism: Brotherhood tokens.

New thematic keywords further define their battlefield identity. Call to Arms represents the Brotherhood inciting local peasantry to join the fight, while Scrapper describes stubborn, hardy fighters who remain aggressive even when defending. Together, these additions give Brotherhood Without Banners a distinctive way to expand a Battles of Westeros force.
