About this board game
Blocky Mountains is a 30-minute dexterity game for 1–7 players, released in 2014, where you build 3D landscapes from large wooden blocks and guide a wooden trapper across them.
Each challenge begins with a card drawn from one of three piles, ranging from easy to difficult. After constructing the parcours shown on the card, you must move the trapper from the start block to the end block using a wooden rod with a hook.
The trapper can be pushed, pulled, lifted, slid, or swung across the course. Its metal eye allows the rod to control the piece, while some challenges add an intermediate string or require you to move the trapper and a grizzly bear simultaneously with both hands. Provisions provide another test, as they must be kicked along the route.
- Solo play: Take on the mountain alone.
- Cooperative play: Work together with 2–7 players.
- Competitive play: Race with 2–4 players toward the summit on the route map.
Successfully mastering a challenge advances your piece 2–4 steps toward the summit, depending on its difficulty. If you lose track, fall down, or lose your provisions, you fail the challenge and must move backward. After a success, the next player chooses whether to change to a new parcours or attempt the same one again.
Owls and squirrel tokens add skill management and special actions to the experience. With its physical landscapes and varied movement tests, Blocky Mountains turns every ascent into a hands-on mountain adventure.
