About this board game

Catan: Starfarers is a space exploration and colonization board game for 3–4 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Players travel into the depths of the galaxy, seeking valuable ore and carbon deposits while encountering barren worlds, alien peoples, pirates, and mysterious wormholes.

This revised version of Starfarers of Catan features updated graphics and game materials, revised rules, and a variable game board that makes each expedition into space different. Players establish colonies to claim planets within systems, but the number of colonies each system can hold depends on the number of players.

Resource management remains central, but access to resources is less dependent on luck and negotiation. Players who are behind in victory points receive cards on their turns regardless of their roll, while market trades allow resources to be exchanged at set rates. Goods can be traded at a more favorable rate, and negotiated player trades remain available when a crucial card is missing.

• Explore the galaxy: Reach distant systems when nearby planets are already claimed.
• Colonize planets: Compete for limited spaces within each system.
• Meet alien races: Some encounters provide useful benefits, rewarding players who venture out early.
• Face space hazards: Pirates and wormholes add challenges and unexpected possibilities.

In Catan: Starfarers, expanding into space is a strategy in its own right. Decide when to pursue resources, when to seek alien assistance, and how far to travel as you compete to build your presence among the stars.
