El Grande: Grandissimo

About this expansion

El Grande: Grandissimo is an expansion for the El Grande base game, supporting 2–5 players and a playing time of approximately 90 minutes. Released in 2000, it adds a small deck of action cards to the classic game.

The cards are used to augment the five basic actions of El Grande. The new action piles provide an additional way to expand the base game, in a format similar to the Grand Inquisitor & Colonies expansion.

The expansion package includes notable new action piles named the Queen and the Jester. These additions are designed to be used with the base game rather than as a standalone experience.

El Grande: Grandissimo was distributed free of charge by Rio Grande and Hans im Glück. The Queen and Jester piles are generally considered a little much for game balance, making them a distinctive addition for players exploring how the expansion changes the base game.

Grandissimo was also bundled into the 10th Anniversary Edition (Decennial) of El Grande. For fans of the original game, this compact expansion offers a clearly defined set of extra action cards while remaining closely tied to the base game’s five-action structure.
