About this expansion
Federation: Piracy is an expansion for 1–4 players, with play sessions listed at up to 240 minutes. Released in 2025, it adds two optional modules designed to bring more dilemmas to the game.
The expansion is built around the Piracy module and the AI Assistant module. Each module can be played on its own, or both can be combined in the same game, allowing players to decide how much additional content they want to include.
Federation: Piracy also introduces a new form of asymmetry. Rather than being imposed on players, this asymmetry is decided by the player, creating another point of choice during setup and play while preserving the expansion’s focus on meaningful dilemmas.
- Piracy module: adds one of the expansion’s optional ways to increase dilemmas.
- AI Assistant module: provides another modular addition that can be played separately or alongside Piracy.
- Solo mode: supports play with the basic game and can also be combined with both expansion modules.
The box also contains the game’s Solo mode. This mode can be played with the basic box alone, or with the Piracy and AI Assistant modules included, giving solo players the flexibility to choose their preferred version of the experience.
Whether used separately or together, the modules make Federation: Piracy a flexible addition for players looking for more dilemmas and a player-decided asymmetry. Its modular design lets groups tailor their game, while the included solo content extends the experience beyond multiplayer sessions.
